Banka  district has been established on February 21, 1991. Earlier it was the richest and largest Sub-Division of the district Bhagalpur. Banka is the home land of the revolutionary Satish Prasad jha, one of seventh martyrs who hoisted the flag of India at the secretariat building near Patna on 11 august 1942. A famous temple dedicated to the hindu goddess Durga is located in Jagatpur, Karharia, Kushmaha, kunauni, Laxmipur dam, Banka, Babhangama. Every year during Durga Puja, thousands of devotees from other parts of india visit this temple.
