Dhemaji City

Dhemaji is an administrative district in the state of Assam in India. The district headquarters are located at Dhemaji. The areas of the present district was part of the greater Sutiya Kingdom alongwith Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Sonitpur district from the 12th century to the 16th century until the Ahom-Sutiya war during the early period of the 16th century. Dhemaji became a fully-fledged district on 14 October 1989 when it was split from Lakhimpur district.  It is one of the most remote districts of India, at the easternmost part of Assam. Situated in the foothills of the lower Himalayas it is relatively a small town. Being in a confluence of rivers with the mighty Brahmaputra river flanking the district and its numerous tributaries running through the district, the region is perennially affected by floods.

How To Reach in Dhemaji.

By Road :- National Highway 52 passes through Dhemaji district. Dhemaji is approximately 430 km from Guwahati, it is a 12 hour journey and Volvo busses are available on the route day and night. Direct busses are also available from Pasighat, Along and Itanagar of Arunachal Pradesh.

By Rail :-  Dhemaji is well connected by rail to all parts of country. Trains are available from Guwahati and Alipur. Murkong Selek railway station is located in Dhemaji District near Jonai, a train from Murkong Selek travels along the meter gauge line via Dhemaji station and on to Rangiya Junction, Rangiya Junction also has broad gauge trains going to Guwahati, as well as Siliguri, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi.
