Durgapur is acity in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located about 160 km fromKolkata, in Burdwan district. The industrial township was designed by Joseph Allenand is home to one of the largest industrial area units in the state. The name of Durgapur is come from the name of Sri Durgamohan, Chattopadhyay,the Janmindar of Gopinathpur area of Durgapur and the erstwhile scion of thefamily of chatterjees of sagarbhanga area. Durgapur is in the Burdwan districtof West Bengal, on the banks of Damodar River. The coal bearing of area of the Raniganjcoalfields lies just beyond Durgapur. The area was deeply forested till recenttimes, and some steaks of the original forests are still here.
