Jahanabad City is a part of Magadh Division. Jahanabad is located on the confluence of two small rivers called Dardha and Yamunaiya. It is heartland of Magadha and the local dialect is called Magahi. The City has been in the national news mostly for the news related to Naxalite violence. The area is however developing now and the services sector is gaining ground in the City . The territory of the present-day City became Jahanabad sub-division of Gaya district in 1872. The City came into District existence on 1 August 1986. The famous Barabar Caves are located in the Jahanabad District. The region is rich for cultivating cereals and vegetables.

By Rail :- Jahanabad has a railway station of its own within the city. The recently electrified Patna - Gaya branch railway line (P.G. line) traverses through the district while linking the Grand Chord with Patna as well. There are four railway stations for accessing the city such as Jahanabad, Court, Tehta and Makhdumpur in the 31 km long stretch of the railways.
