Sasaram sometimes also spelled as Sahsaram, is the administrative headquarter of the Rohtas district in the Indian state of Bihar.Rohtas a historical place, was created as District in the year 1972 carved outof the district of Sahabad. Sher Shah Suri's 122 feet(37 m) red sandstone tomb, built in the Indo-Afghan style stands in the middle of anartificial lake at Sasaram. The tomb of Sher Shah's father HasanKhan Suri is also at Sasaram, and stands in the middle of green fieldat Sherganj, which is known as SukhaRauza. Bihar has among the lowest rates of literacy in India, but Sasaram doesn't share this trend and it is thesecond most literate city. Jainath Bhawan is a grand mansion built by amagistrate named Babu Harihar Prasad Verma, and his wife Uma Devi Verma, in1945. The mansion is named forBabu Jainath Prasad, who was a Zamindar and the first lawyer to practicein English.
