Siwan town is apart of Saran Division since1972. The town is known for its great past especially for First President ofIndian Republic who belonged to Jeeradei. The district was previously alsoknown as Aliganj Sawan after the name of Ali Bux. Siwan has historical andmythological importance attached to it. Siwanbecame a fully-fledged district when it was split from Saran in 1976. Siwanwas a part of Banaras Kingdom during the 8th century. Muslims camehere in the 13th century. Sikandar Lodibrought this area in his kingdomin the 15th century. Babar crossed Ghaghra rivernear Siswan in his return journey. In the end of the 17th century, the Dutchcame first followed by the English. After the battle of Buxar in 1765 it became a part of Bengal. Siwan played an importantrole in 1857 independence movement. Rajendra Prasad was an independenceactivist and, as a leader of the Congress Party, played a prominent role in theIndian Independence Movement. Dr. Rajendra Prasad December 3, 1884– February28, 1963 was the first President of India.He was born in Zeradei, in the Siwandistrict of Bihar. Deshratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad as long as heremained in Patna to lead the Freedom Movement. He lived and worked here sincethe establishment of Bihar Vidyapeeth on 6 February 1921
